Question Tags (1/2)

KURALLAR:

1.Tag questions cümlede kullanılan zamanın (tense) yardımcı fiili kullanılarak yapılır. Question tag yapabilmek için cümledeki yardımcı fiili ve cümle içerisinde kullanıldığı zamanı bilmek gerekir. Cümle olumlu ise tag olumsuz, cümle olumsuz ise tag olumlu olur. Bu tür sorularda, virgülden sonra, yani 'tag question'ı oluştururken, yardımcı fiilden sonra daima cümlede bahsi geçen şahıs zamiri kullanılır ('I, he, she, it' vs).

Örnek:

He is a writer, isn't he?

Alice won't come over, will she? (ismi iki kere kullanmak yerine, he/she/it, yani şahıs zamiri kullanılır tag question yaparken).

You work as a teacher, don't you?

She hasn't met him, has she?

2. Diğer önemli nokta ise cümlenin anlamının olumlu olup olmayışı. Yani cümlede kullanılan fiilin manası olumlu ise (cümle normalde olumsuz cümle yapısında olmasa dahi, diğer bir deyişle, cümlede 'not' olmasa dahi), tag olumsuz, cümle/fiilin anlamı olumsuz ise tag olumlu olmalıdır.

Örnek:

There is no milk in the fridge, is there?

3. İstisnalar bulunmaktadır.

Örnek:

I am clumsy, aren't I? (Değil mi anlamında kullanılan olumsuz question tag cümlelerinde, cümledeki olumlu 'am', question tag'de 'aren't' olur.)

Don't eat, will you? (Yeme, tamam mı?)

Come over tomorrow, will you? (Yarın bize gel, tamam mı? gibi bir anlama geliyor. Öneriden çok neredeyse bir emir var).

Let's play, shall we? (Bu bir öneri niteliğinde, 'haydi oynayalım, ne dersin' gibi bir anlamı var. Let's ile olanlarda 'shall' gelir.)

They used to visit us, didn't they? (Eskiden bizi ziyaret ediyorlardı, değil mi?)

Not: Bir sonraki derste hangi tür cümlelerde question tags için hangi eklerin geldiğini bir liste halinde sizinle paylaşacağım. Ayrıca her zamanki gibi sonrasında da sizin için alıştırmalar ekleyeceğim. Sorularınızı yorumlar kısmında sorabilirsiniz. Keyifli çalışmalar.

Customer, Consumer and Client

İngilizce’deki bu üç kelime sıklıkla birbiriyle karıştırılan, kafa karıştıran, öğrenme aşamasındakilerin aradaki farkı bulmakta zorlandığı kelimelerdendir. Bugünkü hedefim, bu kelimelerin daha kolay anlaşılabilmesini sağlamak.

Customer: Belli bir dükkan ya da iş yerinden birşeyler satın alan kimse. Türkçe’deki en iyi karşılığı ’müşteri’ kelimesidir.
Örnek: I love it when the customers come back for more.

Consumer: Daha çok teori bazli durumlarda, örneğin ekonomi üzerine hazırlanan bir raporda kullanılan ve daha cok ’tüketici’ anlamına gelen, bir kimsenin kendisi icin kullanmak/yemek/tüketmek amaçlı bir maddeyi yahut servisi sat
ın alması durumunda kullanılan bir kelimedir.
Örnek: Businesses need to identify consumer trends and needs.

Örnek: Yesterday, I spent all day designing a new website for a client.

Bu kelimelerin anlamı birbiriyle zaman zaman örtüşen ve hatta sıklıkla birbiriyle de yakinen ilintili olan ve bazen birbirleri yerine kullanılabilen kelimelerdir. Örneğin; bir mağazaya giden kimse o mağazanın müşterisi (customer of that shop), o mağazanın sahibi olan şirketin müşterisi (client of the company) ve aldığı şeyin de tüketicisidir (the consumer of the particular thing(s) s/he buys).

Present Simple Tense: To Be Verb (Olmak Fiiliyle Geniş Zaman)

İngilizce'de Geniş Zaman (Simple Present Tense) ayrıca 'olmak' fiiliyle, yani 'to be' fiiliyle de yapılır. Ancak cümle içerisinde kullanılan 'to be' fiili tam olarak 'olmak' anlamına gelmemektedir. Daha çok cümledeki sıfat yahut isim için 'dir-dır' gibi tamamlayıcı bir konumdadır. Bu zamanda kullanılan 'to be' fiilleri özneye göre cümlelerde şu şekillerde kullanılır:

To Be: Am, Is, Are

AM: I
IS: He, She, It (üçüncü tekil şahıs)
ARE: You, We, They (sen/siz ve çoğul şahıslar)

Olumlu Cümle Yapısı:
Subject (özne) + To Be (am/is/are) + Noun (isim)/Adjective (sıfat)

Olumsuz Cümle Yapısı:
Subject (özne) + To Be (am/is/are) + not + Noun (isim)/Adjective (sıfat)

Soru Cümlesinde 'To Be':
To Be (am/is/are) + Subject (özne) + Noun (isim)/Adjective (sıfat)
Question word (eg. What/Where) + To Be (am/is/are) + Subject + Noun (isim)/Adjective (sıfat)

  ADVANCE AUSTRALIA FAIR

Australians all let us rejoice,
For we are young and free;
We’ve golden soil and wealth for toil;
Our home is girt by sea; Our land abounds in nature’s gifts
Of beauty rich and rare;
In history’s page, let every stage
Advance Australia Fair.
In joyful strains then let us sing,
Advance Australia Fair.

Beneath our radiant Southern Cross
We’ll toil with hearts and hands;
To make this Commonwealth of ours
Renowned of all the lands;
For those who’ve come across the seas
We’ve boundless plains to share;
With courage let us all combine
To Advance Australia Fair.
In joyful strains then let us sing,
Advance Australia Fair.
